Frequently asked questions

What is calcium with vitamin D3 for?

It combines calcium and vitamin D3 in the same serving. Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus. Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Why do calcium and vitamin D go together?

Because vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus: taking them in the same serving is a convenient way to get both. If you have been diagnosed with a bone problem or have been prescribed calcium or vitamin D, that is for your doctor to assess: this supplement does not replace what you have been prescribed.

How much does it contain? Isn't 2,000 IU a lot?

Per serving of 2 capsules: 50 µg of vitamin D3 (2,000 IU, 1,000 % of the nutrient reference value) and 168 mg of calcium (21 % of the nutrient reference value). The 50 µg of vitamin D is half the tolerable upper intake level set by EFSA for adults (100 µg a day, also counting what you get from food). For calcium, that level is 2,500 mg a day, also counting the diet; the 168 mg is a small part of what you need each day, and the rest has to come from your diet.

What is calcium citrate?

It is calcium bound to citric acid (on the label, "calcium salts of citric acid"). The amount that matters is the calcium, not the whole salt: here, 168 mg of calcium per serving. It can be taken with or without food.

How and when should I take it?

2 capsules a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, with plenty of water. It can be taken with or without food. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Can I take it with other supplements?

This formula already provides 50 µg of vitamin D and 168 mg of calcium a day. Our vitamin D3 + K2 and our liposomal vitamin C also contain 50 µg of vitamin D each (and the D3 + K2 label states that it is not recommended for people on anticoagulant treatment). If you take another supplement or a medicine that also contains vitamin D or calcium (including anything prescribed by your doctor), ask your doctor or pharmacist first: with two 50 µg vitamin D supplements you already reach, from them alone, 100 µg a day, the tolerable upper intake level set by EFSA for adults, which also counts what you get from food. For calcium, also add up what comes from your diet and any other supplement against the 2,500 mg a day.

I take medication. Can I take it?

Ask your doctor or pharmacist first, as they know your case. Calcium and vitamin D can interact with some medicines: they will tell you whether you can take it. The composition per serving is on this same page so you can show it to them.

Who should check before taking it?

Its label recommends following a professional's advice during pregnancy and breastfeeding (during pregnancy, also check with your midwife). It is not intended for children or adolescents: ask their paediatrician. If you take medication, have any condition (for example, kidney disease, kidney stones or high blood calcium) or are about to have surgery, ask your doctor or pharmacist first. The composition per serving is on this same page: show it to them.

How long does a pack last?

120 capsules: 60 days at 2 capsules a day.

Is it suitable for vegans? Does it contain gluten?

The capsule is plant-based (pullulan) and both the product page and the label declare it suitable for vegans and gluten-free.

How should I store it?

In a cool, dry place protected from light, with the container tightly closed and out of the sight and reach of children. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

What's in the price

The formula is ours

The composition, the amounts per serving and the quality control are defined by BioActive Labs. It is produced under cGMP and ISO 22000 certified by SGS.

Composition per serving

We declare the milligrams of the daily dose, not those of a single capsule. It is the only figure that lets you compare two bottles without getting it wrong.

Certificates, not adjectives

cGMP and ISO 22000 by SGS, plus the food business registration. We don't summarise them: they are published and can be downloaded on our certificates page.

Formula with 2000 IU of vitamin D3 and calcium citrate. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Vegan and allergen-free.

How to read this label — and anyone else's

Look at the daily dose, not the capsule. If a serving is two capsules, the big number on the front may be only half of what you actually take. Here we state everything per serving.

Ask for the extract percentage. "Extract 200 mg" does not tell you how much active compound is inside. A standardised extract does.

Divide the price by the number of days. It is the only figure that compares two different packs. You'll find it above, already worked out.

Who makes it

It is produced in a laboratory certified by SGS to cGMP and ISO 22000. The certificates and the health registration are published and downloadable at bioactivelabs.eu/pages/certificados: we don't summarise them, you can read them yourself.
