Frequently asked questions
What is this product and what does it contain?
It is a powdered complementary feed for dogs. Per 3 g it contains 300 mg of sardine and mackerel oil (with at least 18 % EPA and 12 % DHA, that is, at least 54 mg of EPA and 36 mg of DHA), 300 mg of glucosamine sulphate of plant origin, 200 mg of bovine chondroitin sulphate, 150 mg of eggshell membrane (Ovopet®) and 100 mg of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), plus 50 mg of vitamin C and chicken flavouring. It is not a medicine: if your dog is limping, is in pain or has a diagnosed condition, your vet is the one to assess it.
What is Ovopet®?
It is the thin membrane between the shell and the white of the egg, under a registered trade mark of a Spanish supplier. It is a raw material of egg origin; we tell you how much it contains (150 mg per 3 g) and we don't attribute any specific effect to it.
And MSM?
It is an organic sulphur compound included as a nutritional ingredient. It contains 100 mg per 3 g. There are no conclusive veterinary studies on it and we don't attribute any effect to it.
Can I give it to my cat?
The current pack is labelled as a complementary feed for dogs. If you want to give it to your cat, ask your vet first.
How much should I give according to weight?
Per day: under 10 kg, 3 g (about 5 ml of the scoop); 10 to 20 kg, 6 g (10 ml); 20 to 30 kg, 9 g (15 ml); 30 to 40 kg, 12 g (20 ml); over 40 kg, 15 g (25 ml). Stick to the dose for your dog's weight and don't increase it on your own.
How do I give it? Is it better than tablets?
Once a day, mixed with its usual food, dry or wet, using the measuring scoop included. As it is a powder there's no need to give it a tablet, and it has chicken flavouring. If your dog is wary, you can start with half a dose for the first few days.
Does it contain allergens?
It contains fish (sardine and mackerel), egg (shell membrane), ingredients of bovine origin (chondroitin) and chicken flavouring. The glucosamine is of plant origin, not from shellfish. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy to egg, fish or chicken, or is on an elimination diet, don't give it without asking your vet.
Can I give it with another supplement or with its medication?
Ask your vet first. If it already takes another product with glucosamine, chondroitin or fish oil, the amounts add up, and fish oils can affect blood clotting: this matters if it takes anti-inflammatories or anticoagulants, or is about to have surgery. Take the composition on this page to your vet so they can see it.
When should I check with the vet before starting?
If it is a puppy or a young animal, is pregnant or nursing, is on any treatment, has a diagnosed condition (for example, diabetes, or a liver or kidney problem) or is about to have surgery. It is a complementary feed: it does not replace a balanced diet or your vet's judgement.
How long does the tub last and how much does it cost per day?
The tub holds 150 g: about 50 days for a dog under 10 kg, 25 days for 10 to 20 kg, about 16 days for 20 to 30 kg, about 12 days for 30 to 40 kg and 10 days over 40 kg. For a 15 kg dog it works out at 0.70 € a day.
How should I store it?
In a cool, dry place away from direct light, with the tub tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Once opened, best used within 6 months.
